The only thing I can say is “WOW”. My fellow Dining Diva and I visited Vanderwende’s Farm Creamery today and were very pleasantly pleased. Their farm sits along Rt. 404 in western Sussex County, a main drag to the seaside beaches. It’s obvious they take pride in their farm and love what they do. From the time the farm was purchased in 1954 until today, the growth has been phenomenal. All their cows are BST free.VF1

You may encounter a “long line but it’s worth the weight”. If you order just 1 scoop in a waffle cone, you better have a spot open in your tummy to receive this luscious, delectable treat. I don’t ever remember ordering 1 scoop of ice cream this large and I’ve ordered many scoops of ice cream in my lifetime. The flavor choices are well chosen. They offer very up to date and popular choices for today’s palettes. A new flavor for the season is “Salted Caramel”. I tried Chocolate Coffee Almond in a homemade waffle cone; yummmm. Ice cream is served in cups, cones, homemade waffle cones, bowls, pints and quarts. They have milkshakes, floats, sundaes, banana splits, ice cream sandwiches and ice cream cakes. Personalized ice cream cakes can be ordered 24 hrs. in advance.

In addition to Vanderwende’s premium farm fresh ice cream, they sell specialty flavored milk, butter and cheeses. There are places to sit and enjoy your treats or you can take it with you. We noticed many just sat in their cars to indulge. They all seemed to be smiling and content.
This really is a gem in the middle of nowhere. You must give it a try as you travel Delmarva.
