If you are craving Delmarva Home-style, Barbely’s in Newark, Maryland really shines. Janice says, “just like Mom’s cooking”. Located in Worcester County, just off Rt. 113, in a beautiful farming community, where the people are friendly and enjoy the “finer joys of life”.
We had great fun just finding Barbely’s. I highly recommend you make reservations as the lines can get a little long without them. As you approach Barbely’s you’ll see what looks like an old country store and that’s just what it was. Once inside take time to notice all the old collectables and old and antique furniture. Look at the original floors and imagine all the feet that walked these floorboards. Donnie and Janice have tried very hard to keep the original character of this wonderful piece of history. I’m sure if these walls could talk…well we won’t go there. Many locals frequent Barbely’s and even say it’s like eating home cooked without the mess. Visitors come in from all over Delmarva and beyond, then continue to come back for more.

Once seated you’ll notice how friendly your hostess and servers are. The table settings are eclectic and very interesting. The menu is extensive and you may have a hard time deciding what to order. Each time we go, this is a major problem for us because we want to try everything. The Fried Chicken is probably the most popular, but the Maryland Lump Crab Cakes are to die for. Then there’s Meatloaf with Mashed Potatoes and Gravy. Is your mouth watering yet? Homemade soups include Cream of Crab; Butter Beans, Corn and Tomatoes; Peas and Dumplings and more. For the muffin lover they offer fresh baked Coconut Muffins. Now let’s talk about Janice’s, made from scratch, pies. The choices are Chocolate Meringue, Lemon Meringue and Coconut Cream. Ice Cream and Apple Dumplings with Vanilla Sauce and various other desserts are available.
Many guests order Buckets of Chicken and Coconut Muffins to take with them. We like to do this so we can have a good start on Sunday dinner. Yes; my dear readers, Barbely’s is an eatery you must experience as you travel the beautiful countryside of Delmarva.
Oh; and don’t forget to tell them the Delmarva Diva sent you.
Happy Eating,
Delmarva Diva
